Mentor, Advisor and Coach

Each day many people seek guidance to assist them in making decisions or solving challenges. Mentoring, advising and coaching are all forms of guidance that can be used to help these people grow and develop but differ in specifics such as the duration of the relationship, the type of guidance provided and the intended outcomes. This chapter will define these forms of guidance with a focus on the crritical and nuanced differences between coaching and mentoring, highlighting the concept of mattering (Flett, 2010) in each form of guidance.
