Radiofrequency-assisted lateral toenail onychotomy for ingrown toenail

Ingrown toenail or onychocryptosis is a common debilitating condition of the toenail affecting adolescents and young adults (Fig 1). It is associated with disabling pain, erythema, and purulent discharge. Excision of the lateral nail plate followed by chemical partial matricectomy has a high success rate in the treatment of onychocryptosis.1 The ingrown side of the nail plate is separated from the nail bed and proximal nail fold, cut straight using a nail nipper till under the proximal nail fold, and avulsed.
