Numerical investigation of mesoscale coherent structures in Mediterranean sea

An overview of numerical models able to describe and reproduce mesoscale structures in the ocean is proposed, by focusing on microtidal seas. If the size and statistics of such structures are nowadays satisfactory reproduced, their occurrence and spatio-temporal evolution are poorly recovered. Moreover, when satellite observations allow to monitor such structures, their 3D internal characteristics need further in situ investigations.
