Facile preparation of reprocessable and degradable phenolic resin based on dynamic acetal motifs

•Reversible acetal bonds endow phenolic resin with degradation and reprocessability.•The mobility of flexible chains contributed to the reprocess healing process.•High degradation efficiency of phenolic resin was achieved under acidic conditions.•The regenerated phenolic resins showed excellent mechanical properties.
