Preliminary study of laser in situ keratomileusis for treatment of latent hyperopia

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK) for t reatment of latent hyperopia. Methods 12 patients (24 eyes) with latent hyperopia were treated with LASIK usin g VISX S3(made in USA).The average follow-up was 3 months. Results After 3 months' follow-up,the uncorrected near visual a cuity of 23 eyes(95.8%) was beyond 0.5.The far visual acuity of 22 eyes(91.7% ) was beyond 0.5.The average residual refraction was (+0.58±1.25)D.The diopt ers of 21 eyes (87.5%) were in the range of ±1.0D. Conclusion LASIK can be used to treat latent hyperopia with eff icacy and safety.The early results are satisfactory.However,further observation is still required.
