Expression and significance of Integrin-β3 and Fas protein in human gastric carcinoma

Objective To investigate the expression of Integrin-β3 and Fas protein in gastric ear-einorna as well as their relationships with clinical characteristics. Methods The expression of Integrin-β3and Fas protein was detected by using immunohistochemieal technique in the specimens from 48 cases of gastric carcinoma tissues and 12 cases of surrounding normal tissues. Results The positive rate of Inte-grin-β3 expression was significantly higher in gastric carcinoma than that in the normal tissues (72.9% vs 25.0% ,P ＜0.01),while that of Fas expression was marked significantly lower in gastric carcinoma than that in the normal controls (33.3% vs 83.3% ,P ＜0. 01), The expression of Integrin-β3 was correlated with lymph node metastasis and TMN staging (P ＜0.01) ,but not with the differentiation of tumor cells (P ＞0.05). The expression of Fas was not correlated with lymph node metastasis, TMN staging and the differentiation of tumor cells (P ＞ 0. 05). There was a inverse correlation between the expression of Inte-grin-β3 is in gastric carcinoma (r = - 0. 429, P ＜ 0. 01). Conclusion The expression of Integrin-β3 is closely correlated with the infiltration and metastasis of gastric carcinoma. Key words: Gastric carcinoma; Integrin-β3; Fas; Cell adhesion molecule
