Protection of L-Carnosine for Neuronal Cells of Young Rats with Febrile Seizures

Objective To explore the protection of L-carnosine for neuronal cells in young rats with febrile seizures(FS).Methods Seventy SD rats of 15 days were randomly divided into intervention groups(group A,B,C),FS control groups(group a,b,c),and blank group,and there were 7 groups all together,10 rats in each group.Warm water was used to induce FS in rats of intervention groups and FS control groups;FS was induced 10 times for each rat.Intraperitoneal injection of L-carnosine(250 mg/kg)were separately given to group A,group B and group C at 30,60 and 120 min after last FS.Intraperitoneal injection of sodium chloride injection of the same volume was given separately to group a,group b and group c at 30,60 and 120 min after last FS.Blank group was neither induced convulsion nor intervention given.Experimental rats were killed after last injection,and used for cerebral oxidative phosphorylation determination,tyrosine hydroxylase(TH)activity determination and creatine kinase(CK)activity determination.Results After FS repeated,cerebral oxidative phosphorylation in intervention groups and convulsive control groups was obviously lower than that of blank group(F=162.30,89.59 Pa0.01),but TH activity was significantly higher than that in blank group(F=115.49,78.63 Pa0.01)and CK activity was obviously higher than that in blank group(F=98.75,80.17 Pa0.01);after intraperitoneal injection of L-carnosine,cerebral oxidative phosphorylation in interventional group A was obviously higher than those of group a(t=15.80 P0.01),and TH activity and CK activity were obviously lower than those of group a(t=15.05,8.29 Pa0.01);and interventional group B was obviously higher than those of group b(t=11.34 P0.01),and TH activity and CK activity were obviously lower than those of group b(t=11.38,11.34 Pa0.01);cerebral oxidative phosphorylation of group C was not obviously higher than that of group c(t=2.15 P0.05),TH activity and CK activity were not obviously lower than those of group c(t=0.77,1.88 Pa0.05).Conclusions Early injection of L-carnosine would not only improve cerebral oxidative phosphorylation,relieve neuronal injury of repeated FS,but play a role in the protection of neuronal cells.
