An Online Cognitive Intervention Tool for the Patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment using Virtual Reality

The adoption of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in various domains is revolutionizing our lives and the same is true with the healthcare system. Modern technologies are disclosing novel and unforeseen applications and one of them is the development of cognitive interventions for elderly patients, however, the use of Virtual Reality (VR) is at a preliminary stage. This paper aims to propose a treatment for patients with mild cognitive impairment with the help of virtual reality in conjunction with 5G wireless networks. For this purpose, our work can be used to validate the feasibility of online treatment to reduce the treatment cost particularly for patients in remote areas. We apply the case study in Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. Results show that VR technology when used with 5G network, can supplement the traditional medical system and is found to help treat patients suffering from dementia.
