 This paper is concerned about social policy challenges in a Trinidad and Tobago context, its primary focus on the family institution and youth is warranted. It is warranted because youth have to be empowered to overcome contemporary trials that are known to adversely affect their familial settings, not to mention, pose tremendous threats on the well being of prospective familial situations. In countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, social policy initiatives have been developed in accordance with the recommendations emanating from fora such as international conferences. Examines international perspectives which have been used as guidelines by many countries in developing social policies.
