Effectiveness of microsurgery for intramedullary spinal cord tumors

ObjectiveTo explore the effectiveness of microsurgery for patients with intramedullary spinal cord tumors(ISCTs).MethodThe clinical data of 27 patients with ISCTs who underwent microsurgery from 2000 to 2013 were analyzed retrospectively.ResultsTotal resection was achieved in 13 patients,subtotal in 10 and partial in 4.No patient died after operation.The symptoms resolved in 21 patients,did not change in 3 and worsened in 3 one month after operation.All patients were followed up for 6~24 months,2 patients recurred.According to McCormick clinical function classification,17,6,3 and 1 patient belonged to gradeⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,andⅣ,respectively.ConclusionMicrosurgery is an effective treatment method for patients with ISCTs.
