The aerial part of Paspalum repens was herein chemically and biologically assessed. The rosmarinic acid and a mix of the flavonoids quercetin-3- O -b -D-glucopyranoside and quercetin-3- O - b -D-(6”-E-caffeoyl) glucopyranoside were isolated through chemical investigation. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated based on their NMR (1D and 2D) data. The crude extract, hexane, ethyl acetate and n -butanol fractions were evaluated for biological activity. The ethyl acetate fraction showed significant DPPH free-radical scavenging activity with CE 50 18.88 ± 0.34 mg.mL ?1 , and total phenols EAT 110.79 mg.mL -1 . The crude extract, hexane, ethyl acetate and n -butanol fraction were inactive against the following microorganisms: Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis , Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans . The present study is the first one about the herein assessed aquatic plant.
