A Taxonomy of Knowledge Sharing in Online Communities

Despite the widespread adoption and use of online communities, little effort has been afforded to understand and distinguish between the different types of knowledge sharing that is undertaken in such communities. This paper addresses this gap by presenting the first taxonomy of knowledge sharing in online communities. Our findings provide interesting insights into the dimensions and characteristics of different knowledge sharing archetypes. Avenues for how future research can build on this work are also identified.
