ANP Attenuates Intestinal Inflammation by Regulating STING Pathway

Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP) showed anti-inflammatory effects in recent studies. However, the specific role of ANP in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remains unknown. The study was designed to investigate the expression and function of ANP in IBD and identify whether it regulated IBD by the stimulator of interferons genes (STING) pathway. The ANP and STING pathway levels were detected in IBD patients or dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mice. We found that ANP treatment meaningfully attenuated DSS-induced colitis and inhibited the phosphorylation of the STING pathway in colon tissues. Besides, ANP repaired the intestinal mucosal barrier that damaged by colitis via the STING pathway. ANP may be a promising therapeutic option in IBD treatment.
