Comprehensive Analysis of a Bridgeless AC-DC Modified Cuk Converter with Maximized Performance by Using PFC Scheme

In this paper, a modified AC-DC Cuk converter with maximized performance as compared to the conventional converter circuit by using PFC scheme is proposed. The proposed circuit is made bridgeless without using any transformer hence there is a negligible chance of power loss. Working of this converter is based on two semiconductor switches. The proposed scheme does not use any feedback loop thus it offers less energy consumption, small size, cost effectiveness and less current stresses in switching elements. The uses of less semiconductor devices make the proposed design more advantageous. The conventional and modified Cuk converters results are compared with the help of simulation on PSIM software and Simulink. The simulated results show that the performance parameters of modified converter have been improved as compared to the conventional circuit and the new performance parameters have an efficiency of 88%, input power factor of 0.97 and THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is less than 3%.
