Geophysics and Seismic Data Processing

In the previous chapters, we gained an understanding of Python programming, learned concepts of machine learning and deep learning, and implemented some of these concepts using Python. The focus of this chapter is to give an overview of the applications of machine learning in the field of geophysics. The primary objective of exploration workflows is the use of seismic data processing to build earth models to estimate the reservoir properties. This is a mature and well-studied problem, with several decades of academic and industrial research behind the science of seismic imaging and reservoir property estimation.
