Binding Proteins | Ca2+ Binding/Buffering Proteins: ER Luminal Proteins

In the endoplasmic/sarcoplasmic reticulum (ER/SR), Ca2+ is controlled by numerous Ca2+ binding proteins that bind Ca2+ with high capacity. These proteins play an important role in Ca2+ storage in the ER/SR, the maintenance of resting free Ca2+ concentration in the lumen of the ER/SR, and in the modulation of cellular Ca2+ homeostasis.
