Analysis of Different Search Strategies Adopted by the Research Community

The objective of this article is to know the effective information retrieval (IR) by the students and research scholars by using IR tools available on the Internet. Online IR tools are often used to acquire scholarly information, but on several occasions, it cannot meet the requirements. This article provides a study of the use of such tools, the information feedback and the factors that affect the retrieval. The findings of this study reveal that there exists a lack of awareness of search strategies hence appropriate information is not retrieved; libraries and information centres fail to provide facilities to use IR tools; no adequate measures are undertaken to meet the difficulties of the users while handling the tools. To enhance the efficiency of the IR tools, we have proposed to use ontology which is one of the best means by which knowledge can be captured, represented, utilised and retrieved effectively.
