Genetic Counseling and Genomic Sequencing

Leaders in the field have called on the profession to carefully examine extant approaches to genetic counseling to make careful and deliberate adaptations to enable sound pre- and post-test “genomic counseling”. Such evaluations must include identifying evidence-based benchmarks to ensure that patients are making informed decisions, have realistic expectations of findings they might receive, understand the findings they do receive, and manage their results appropriately. The challenges of genomic counseling and the processes needed to address these will be discussed in this chapter.
