Climate Change Risk and Informal Recycling: An NGO and Private Sector Partnership in Bogotá

This chapter describes the crucial and often unrecognized role that developing world informal recyclers play in reducing the risks associated with climate change. “Project Pennsylvania,” (PP) a pilot program launched by four multinational corporations and a nongovernmental organization in Bogotá, Colombia, serves as an illustrative example highlighting how innovative recycling partnerships can create value and provide environmental, economic, and social risk reduction as they contribute to efficient solid waste management systems in low-income countries.
