•Binary adulteration of PFM could not be identified by proximate composition analysis.•NIR-HSI can identify AFM containing FTM, FBP or binary adulterants.•The SVM models perform considerably better than PLS-DA models.•BO-SVM model using 20 effective wavelengths achieved ≥ 99.43% classification accuracy.
