Novel IL1RAP mutation associated with schizophrenia interferes with neuronal growth and related NF-κB signal pathways

•Novel nonsense mutation IL1RAP c.1324C > T was identified in schizophrenia patients.•IL1RAP regulates axon and dendrite growth, overexpression of IL1RAP R442* variant suppresses axon and dendrite growth.•IL1RAP R442* variant inhibits IL-1β-induced phosphorylation of JNK in mouse cortical neurons.•IL1RAP R442* variant does not affect the expression of schizophrenia susceptibility genes in mouse cortical neurons.•IL1RAP R442* variant causes truncated protein and partially supresses NF-κB signal pathway in HePG2 cells.
