Epidemiology and genotypic characteristics of carbapenem resistant Enterobacterales in Henan, China: a multicentre study

•This multicentre study collected 238 isolates of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) over 3 months.•Carbapenemase genes and drug susceptibilities in secondary and tertiary hospitals were compared.•blaKPC-2 and blaNDM-5 were the most prevalent genes in carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) and carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (CREC).•ST11 and ST2 were the most common sequence types (STs) in CRKP and CREC.•Discovery of mcr-1 in CRKP in a secondary hospital in Henan.
