A biomechanical in-vitro study on an alternative fixation technique of the pubic symphysis for open book injuries of the pelvis

•In this study we describe and investigate a new fixation technique with suture-button devices in open-book injuries of the pelvis.•Suture button implants showed biomechanical comparable results to anterior plate fixation, the actual “gold standard” for open book injuries of the pelvis.•The two groups showed neither differences regarding the ultimate loads or regarding the symphysial diastasis during load to failure testing.•No form of implant failure was detectable during the biomechanical testing.
