Investigating the effects of conventional thermoplastic ankle-foot and the neoprene ankle-foot orthoses on the kinetics and kinematics of gait in people with foot drop following traumatic injury of the peroneal nerve: A pilot study

•Both orthotic designs could control the ankle-foot complex during the gait and reduce compensatory gait mechanisms.•The plantarflexion angle was reduced significantly in both orthotic designs compared to the shoe-only condition.•Neoprene orthosis design could serve as a low-cost alternative to conventional AFOs for improving gait kinematics and kinetics.
