•rLinCas7 is a divalent metal ion-dependent non-specific endoDNase.•The pure rLinCas7 remains as a monomer in the solution.•rLinCas7 oligomerizes on crRNA exclusively in the presence of Mg2+ ions.•rLinCas7 acts as a non-specific RNase in the absence of Mg2+ ions.
