摘要
To the Editor: We applaud Jayakumar and Samimi1 for highlighting the trends observed in the number of positions available in US dermatology residencies and fellowships from 2006 to 2016. Population-adjusted increases in the number of dermatology residency positions (14.4%) and micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology fellowship positions (119.8%) were noted during this period, compared with a slight decrease in dermatopathology fellowship positions (−1.3%).1 Forecasted shortages within the dermatology workforce coupled with minimal reduction in the burden of skin disease in the United States indicate a continued need for dermatologists and dermatology subspecialists.
