摘要

•Tracheostomy and TIV can prolong survival time in multiple system atrophy.•Unlike tracheostomy, TIV may reduce the risk of sudden death.•However, TIV cannot prevent all sudden deaths due to many contributing factors.•TIV should therefore be carefully chosen considering patients' quality of life.
