Adapting and scaling a single site DEA X-waiver training program to a statewide initiative: Implementing GetWaiveredTX

•Medication for opioid use disorder (OUD) is the only evidence-based treatment for OUD demonstrated to reduce morbidity and mortality.•Low numbers of DEA X-waivered providers remain a significant barrier to increasing access to medication for OUD.•We rapidly designed and implemented GetWaiveredTX to increase the number of X-waivered providers for OUD treatment in Texas.•Applying behavioral economics and implementation science principles to a statewide DEA X-waiver initiative provides new understanding.
