Bimodal interferometry in photonic crystal structures for the development of ultra-compact optical devices

A 1D photonic crystal waveguide supporting two propagating modes is proposed for the creation of a bimodal interferometer. By properly designing the structure, slow wave behavior can be used to significantly improve the performance and reduce the footprint of the device.
