Parameter optimization and validation of a cost efficient hybrid mock loop of the cardiovascular system

This paper presents a nonlinear parameter optimization of closed-circuit cardiovascular models. We use animal trial data to fit the cardiovascular model and find optimized parameters. The model is programmed in Modelica, and we use JModelica for the optimization. We introduce a cost-efficient hardware in the loop test bench to design and evaluate controllers for left ventricular assist devices. The optimization results show that the chosen modeling approach is well suited to reflect the animal's physiological behavior in the chosen operating point. The results of an in vitro experiment prove that the cost-efficient hybrid mock loop is capable of creating the pressure boundaries for left ventricular assist devices.
