Evaluation of the Surgical Management of Achalasia in Children and Young Adults

•Laparoscopic Heller myotomy has a low incidence of complications in young adults.•This study examines perioperative risk factors and short-term outcomes of LHM in the pediatric and young adult population. LHM continues to be a safe operation with minimal short-term morbidity.•Practice variations in the use of intraoperative EGD and manometry may exist, but this study found no significant association between their use and adverse outcomes. Further study is needed to guide practice recommendations.
