•The number of neurologist is low in Africa compared to other regions.•African nations were divided into four levels according to the number of neurologists per nation.•Our study showed an expanding number of the African neurologists in the last 15 years.•Teleneurology plays an effective tool to encourage, assist, and establish training programs for African physicians.
