The effect of intravenous ketamine on depressive symptoms after surgery: A systematic review

•Intravenous ketamine given perioperatively improves depressive symptoms at time points up to three days after surgery.•The antidepressant action of ketamine may be more pronounced in patients with pre-existing depression.•Intravenous ketamine reduces postoperative pain.
