•A dynamic mesoscale cracking modeling for PBX is proposed.•The microcrack evolution model could describe the cracking well.•The microcrack evolution characteristics is quantified for different cases.•Dynamic cracking response with precracks is obtained.•The effect of the Mohr-Coulomb failure surface on dynamic cracking is analyzed.
