•Preeclampsia is a major public health problem for maternal and infants morbidity and mortality in Ethiopia.•34.7% of cases and 69.4% controls had a birth interval of more than 36 months.•Around 26.2% of cases and 7.7% of controls groups had history of kidney disease.•26.2% of cases and 29.2% controls had history of abortion.•50.8% cases and 16.9% controls had family history of HTN whereas 44.6%) cases and 12.8% controls had previous history of preeclampsia.•Educational status of the women, ANC visit, Birth interval, Family History of DM and HPN, and Previous history of preeclampsia were the determinate factor of Preeclampsia.
