End System TSN Enablement Using OPC UA

Adoption of TSN and OPC UA in industrial automation foresees their configuration and even co-configuration. However, resource-constrained end systems may not have the capacity for designated TSN configuration engines, and thus may benefit from access to the necessary configuration through OPC UA. This paper showcases such an example: a DI-compatible OPC UA information model and back-end that enable QoS/TSN configuration over OPC UA. The presented development precedes the OPC foundation FX group (Ex-FLC, Ex-Shapers) releases and addresses not only PubSub-relevant network configuration, but also client-server, clock synchronization, and transmission scheduling.
