Minimizing Age of Information Based on Predictions and Short Packet Communications in UAV Relay Systems.

This paper investigates short packet communication in UAV relay systems, which adopts the age of information (AoI) to measure the status update performance. We improve reliability and reduce transmission delays by optimizing short packet block length and predicted length, which minimizes the average AoI. To be specific, on the one hand, the short packet block length of two-hop communication is optimized to minimize the decoding error probability, on the other hand, the subsequent adjacent state information is reasonably predicted, so as to shorten the transmission delay of short packet and avoid excessive prediction error probability. Simulation results show that reasonable short packet length allocation and information prediction length optimization can effectively reduce the average AoI in UAV relay systems.
