摘要
Natural fibres such as bamboo can be easily degraded by microbes (Biodegradability) and, due to their abundantly cheap availability, it may become an alternative fibre in the future, which grows throughout the year and is also not affected by the season. The use of bamboo fibre is a remedy for environmental problems and the business prospect of synthetic fibres are expected to decline in line with petroleum. Bamboo fibre has hydrophilic properties in its composition which increases the water absorption of the fibre. This degrades the mechanical and physical properties of the resulting composites. The aim of the study is to determine the best treatment method that will result in high tensile strength. Different types of bamboo fibre extraction processes which includes mechanical extraction, chemical extraction and combined (Chemical + Mechanical) extraction is used to extract the bamboo fibre. It has been found out that alkaline treated bamboo fibre with compressed moulding technique (CMT) as the mechanical separation produces a higher tensile strength value (1000 MPa) compared to other fibre treatments.
