•CUS impaired long-term memory in male and female rats.•URB597 improved CUS-impaired long-term memory only in male rats.•CUS decreased β2-adrenoceptors and D1 receptors levels in mPFC of male rats.•CUS decreased levels of β2-adrenoceptors and D1 receptors in the hippocampus of females.•URB597 did not affect the protein levels of these receptors in the hippocampus of female rats.
