Carotid intima-media and epicardial adipose tissue thickness in adult patients with epilepsy taking anti-seizure medication and its long-term significance

•Anti-seizure medications (ASMs) contribute to atherosclerosis in people with epilepsy.•Chronic use of ASMs may increase risks of atherosclerosis.•It is reasonable to use ASM(s) with lower chance of atherosclerosis in people with epilepsy.•Epicardial adipose tissue thickness increases in adults with epilepsy taking ASM.•Increased CIMT in patients taking ASM(s) is independent of their lipid profile.
