Heart failure among US nursing home residents with diabetes mellitus

•In U.S nursing homes, the prevalence of heart failure increases with advancing age.•Factors associated with heart failure includes pneumonia, obesity, CAD, hypertension.•Older adults with pneumonia and COPD had the highest odds for heart failure.•Those with a higher comorbidity index have an increased odd of one-year mortality.•Heart failure with comorbid conditions require multidisciplinary care approach.
