摘要

•Synergistic effect of carbon edges and dopants towards ORR was predicted by DFT.•Well-designed N-GNRs contain both heteroatom-doping and abundant edge sites.•Best ORR property was obtained for N-GNRs compared to other control samples.•The synergistic effect was again demonstrated by experimental facts.
