摘要
In breast cancer, a novel alternative to substitute for hookwire in non-palpable lesions (most of the tumoral) is them use of radioactive I-125-seeds. Every seed is made of a titanium capsule that contains a low-activity radioactive source inside. It is preferibly injected by intratumoral way, under esterotaxis of ultrasound guidance, allowing the location and resection of the tumor using handheld gamma probe (with energy peak at 27 KeV) and/or a gamma camera. Like all radioactive material, it must follow strict guidelines (safety and registry) and use procedures performed by professionally accredited personnel, in order to ensure its continued monitoring during all workflow.
