"The Misunderstanding Of Many: That Actualism Admits Two Subjects": An Unpublished Work By Giovanni Gentile

In the summer of 1943, Giovanni Gentile, wrote Genesi e struttura della societa. In the Archives of the Gentile Foundation in Rome, in the envelope containing the unpublished preparatory notes for the work, there is a small sheet ofpaper in which Gentile provides an enlightening indication of the way in which the relationship between the empirical and the transcendental Self should be interpreted. The present study aims to bring to light this still unpublished reflection of the thinker, in the belief that it represents a valuable resource to examine one of the most discussed issues of Gentile thought.
