Electrospun ZrO2@carbon nanofiber mats and their epoxy composites as effective EMI shields in Ku band

•Preparation of zirconia loaded electrospun fibers successfully.•Preparation of zirconia embedded carbon fibers in lab scale, at different compositions of zirconia.•Preparation of ZrO2/CF/epoxy composites and investigating its performance.•The prepared carbon mats and epoxy composites have excellent EMI shielding effectiveness.•The dynamic mechanical performance of prepared composites are superior than neat composites.
