•NeuroFX PTFs estimate soil water retention and hydraulic conductivity curves in full moisture ranges.•NeuroFX provide uncertainty estimates of hydraulic parameters.•NeuroFX perform better than ROSETTA and BW PTFs in the same test samples.•Parameters of the hydraulic models were mapped for the whole contiguous USA.•NeuroFX is available as R codes and can be used in simulation models.
