Elemental and C, O and Mg isotope geochemistry of middle-late Miocene carbonates from the Tuz Gölü Basin (Central Anatolia, Turkey): Evidence for Mediterranean incursions

•C, O and Mg isotope compositions of the carbonates show a hydrologically open basin.•These carbonates have Mg isotope compositions indicative of seawater incursions into the basin.•They likely precipitated in a lagoonal basin, not in an inner basin.•Middle-late Miocene seawater incursions occurred through transgressions.•Evaporation may have occurred during and after the regression and uplift.
