Structure And Tribological Behavior Of Cralcn Coating In Artificial Seawater

This study examined the tribological behavior of CrAlCN coatings on 316 l stainless steel and TC4 alloy sliding against Si3N4 ball in seawater. The coatings were systematically investigated by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM and EDS. The mechanical and tribological properties were analyzed by nano indentation test and tribometer, respectively. The results showed that the coating contained CrN, CrC, AlN and amorphous (alpha-C) phases. The nanocrystalline was surrounded by alpha-C phases. The hardness of CrAlCN coatings on both substrates was about 21 GPa. The CrAlCN coating on TC4 had the highest Open Circuit Potential, lowest corrosive current density and wear rate, indicating that it had the best wear resistance and corrosion resistance in seawater.
