Morphometric analysis and prioritization of sub-watersheds of Himayatsagar catchment, Ranga Reddy District, Telangana, India using remote sensing and GIS techniques

In the current study, Morphometric parametrization and prioritisation of the eleven subwatersheds of Himayatsagar catchment that is located in Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, India is performed with the usage of Remote-sensing and Geographic Information Systems techniques. The Morphometric properties that is taken into consideration for analysis are stream length, and drainage texture ratio, Length of overland flow, bifurcation ratio, form factor, stream frequency, drainage density, circulatory ratio, elongation ratio, and compactness ratio, etc. The Himayatsagar catchment has predominantly dendritic drainage pattern with trace locations consisting of sub-dendritic drainage pattern. The maximum magnitude of bifurcation ratio is 5.000 in the subwatershed SW2. The bifurcation ratio among all the sub-watersheds is ranging between 1.575 and 5.048, which indicates Lower Rb values givea sign that the catchment is structurally less disturbed with least distortion in configuration of drainage network. The subwatershed SW6 possesses the maximum value of circulatory ratio 0.2578, SW11 has maximum value of elongation ratio 0.9067 and maximum value of form factor 0.6457. The form factor values extend from 0.3 to 0.64 thatgives a sign that the basin is moderately circular and somewhat elongated that has low peak flow for extended duration, which enables somewhat the flood to be managed easily when compared to circular basin. The magnitude of compound-parameters-values have been computed, and priority ranks of all eleven subwatersheds is performed. The subwatershed with least compound factor has been given the greatest priority. The subwatershed SW11 is with a minimum compound factor and is very much likely to be affected by the maximum soil erosion, therefore this shall be administered with immediate conservation steps towards soil conservation.
