Co(II)-coordination polymer: treatment and nursing values on trachoma by inhibiting the Chlamydia trachomatis survival

In the current study, based on the bifunctional ligand 1,1 '-di(4-carbonylphenyl)-2,2 '-biimidazoline (H2L), a new Co(II) coordination polymer (CP) with the chemical formula of {[Co(L)]center dot H2O}(n) (1) was prepared via reaction of Co(NO3)(2)center dot 6H(2)O with the H2L ligand in a mixed solvent of DMF and aqueous HCl with the 4,4 '-bipyridine as the template. The biological activity of the compound on trachoma was evaluated and the related mechanism was explored as well. Firstly, the inflammatory cytokines released by conjunctival fibroblast was measured with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) detection kit. In addition to this, the relative expression of the survival gene in the Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) was determined with real time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Molecular docking simulation confirmed that the biological activity of the complex was originated from the polar functional groups. Above all, the new compound showed excellent treatment activity on the trachoma disease.
